Awolnation - Megalithic Symphony

Awolnation is the solo project of Aaron Bruno, formerly of Under the Influence of Giants and Hometown Hero. Aaron has stated that his artist influences are Kurt Cobain of Nirvana, The Beatles, punk bands like Refuse and hip hop artist like NWA and Public Enemy. This is evident on Awolnation debut album Megalithic Symphony released on March 15, 2011. After a week of listening to the album I can hear and feel his influence coming out on the different tracks, As each one jumping genre blending synths, rock, punk, hip hop and r&b. His experimental sound keeps you interested as you hearing each song, and shows that he has more than a single sound of high energy synth rock.

This is evident in Soul Wars which starts out with a catchy beat and punkish shouting that blends well with his tempo down singing. Jump on my Shoulders is a popish song full of synths and hooks that make you want to dance, a song capible of getting any one in a better mood. Burn it Down has a gospel feel to it and to much surprise works well smack in the middle of the album as break from the other genre. Guilty Filthy Soul has to be one of my favorite songs from Megalithic Symphony, with its r&b sound and beat with a nice blend of vocal reverbs and hard sounding bass riffs. Sail has a great sound to it a much slower song on the album but still grabs you and take on on a harmonic ride, rich in beats and eloquent use of synths.

Over all I have nothing bad to say about this album, every songs flows with each other on this genre hopping ride. Not much artist has as much passion and energy going in to each song to form a well put album. A great change from what is currently out and artist that seam to hone to a single sound. I am really excited to see where Awolnation goes in the future, I have to give this album my first FIVE STARS.

Band of Horses

Once know just as Horses, Band of Horses is an American rock band from Seattle Washington, the band was formed in 2004. Members include Ben Bridwell, Ryan Monroe, Tyler Ramsey, Bill Reynolds, and Creighton Barrett. Their most current album is Infinite Arms 2010 and to date is their most well received album worldwide. The album has a mellow, melancholy, country-ish, folk, sound much like their previous two album, which doesn’t not sit well when being review by reviewer like Paula Thompson of Pitchfork.com and David Malitz of The Washington Post. Ben Bridwell voice is just beautifully amazing and when you got something going for you, you don’t change it. A refreshing change to the cookie cutter crap thats being played over and over on the air waves. The album starts out on a mellow tempo on the single Factory and picks up the beat in Compliments and Lerado, then brings it back down on the next track. My favorite songs are Factory, Compliments, Lerado, NW Apt, and Neighbor, but don’t get me wrong. I can listen to this whole album on repeat and not tired if it. With that being said if you liked any of the previous albums than this is your cup of tea and for some maybe this will be the album that sells you on Band of Horses. You can listen to the Album on the right, under current Artist, if you enjoy this album please support the artist by purchasing the album, links provide below. Enjoy!

The Temper Trap

The Temper Trap is an Alternative Band from Australia consisting of band members Dougy Mandagi –  vocals and guitar, Jonathon Aherne –  bass, guitar and vocals, Lorenzo Sillitto –  guitar, keyboards and vocals, and Toby Dundas – drums and percussion. The Temper Trap first attracted the attention of the worldwide music industry after playing to sell-out crowds at the Musexpo in London in October 2008, and then at South by Southwest in Austin, TX on March 2009. The BBC chose The Temper Trap in its Top 15 Sounds of 2009. Their album Conditions released June 19, 2009 hitting the top 9 in Australia, top 25 in the UK and top 125 in the US. A remixed version was released on November 1st 2010, called “Condition Remixed” this was the album that I thought was the initial release from a new band, but to my surprise they have been around since 2006 and have released three albums previously.  I first heard the single Sweet Disposition in the movie [500] Days of Summer, thus leading me to their current release of Conditions Remixed. Conditions Remixed is full of hefty beats, bass lines, and enough vocal stylings to keep things interesting.  Few EP’s have me listening start to finish on repeat, and this one delivers. I highly recommend it, my rating 1 to 5 would be a 5. You can listen to the Conditions Remix EP on the right-side bar under Current Artist.

Welcome

Welcome to my Blog Audio Enthusiast, where I will blog about music current, and past. A blog for all who enjoy music regardless of genre or decade. Music to me is more than about the pattern of regular or irregular pulses caused by the occurrence of strong and weak melodic and harmonic beats. Its a statement, a collection of memories, a link to the past, present and future. So pour yourself a nice cup of tea and stay awhile and enjoy!
